Deserter from Kharkiv organized a channel for military personnel to leave the country
A resident of Kharkiv, who in April 2024 unlawfully left his place of service and moved to Dnipro, organized an illegal channel for military personnel to exit to Europe. According to the investigation, one exit cost seven thousand euros.
This was reported on January 29th by the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to their information, the man offered his services to familiar military personnel who wished to leave Ukraine.
"He sent the ’client’ unfilled travel order forms with seals from one of the law enforcement agencies by mail. After filling in their information, the client reached Chernivtsi without hindrance, where they were met by an accomplice of the organizer — a local law enforcement officer," the SBI stated in their message.
After receiving 7,000 euros, he informed the client that they would need to cross the border outside official checkpoints. The accomplice also advised taking a thermos with hot tea to stay warm while waiting for the right opportunity to cross the border unnoticed by patrols.
According to the investigation, during searches of the vehicles of the Kharkiv inhabitant and his accomplice, 17 copies of potential client passports were seized.
The man has been charged with desertion and illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine. He faces up to 12 years of imprisonment.
The law enforcement officer from Chernivtsi has also been charged, and the penalty of the article provides for up to nine years of imprisonment.
