
In 2024, the birth rate in Ukraine decreased almost threefold compared to the mortality rate. The highest number of deaths was recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
This is reported in the report of the Ministry of Justice. At the same time, Kyiv topped the ranking for the number of newborns.
Over the past year, 176.6 thousand infants were born in Ukraine, which is 5.8% less compared to 2023, when 187.3 thousand children were born.

At the same time, in 2024, 495 thousand deaths were recorded, which almost matches the figure for 2023 – 496.2 thousand.
Regions with the highest mortality rates:
Overall, mortality exceeded the birth rate by 2.8 times.
The most challenging demographic situation is in the controlled areas of Kherson and Donetsk regions, with this indicator exceeding the birth rate by 11 and 8.5 times, respectively.
The best demographic indicators are observed in Rivne and Volyn, where mortality exceeds the birth rate by 1.6 and 1.7 times, respectively.
