A fire broke out due to a Russian drone attack on the Chornobyl shelter, which rescuers successfully extinguished. Currently, the smoldering of one of the fire’s hotspots is being eliminated.

This was reported by the spokesperson of the State Emergency Service (SES) Svitlana Vodolaha in a comment to Channel 24.

According to Vodolaga, the situation around Chornobyl is currently under control.

In particular, automated monitoring of the radiation background is taking place. She noted that a new system for quality monitoring has appeared in Ukraine thanks to partners, and all up-to-date information is constantly sent to the IAEA. At the same time, manual measurements of the background are also conducted.

"We monitor the situation every second. Currently, the radiation background both on the territory of the facility and in the exclusion zone is within normal limits," added the SES spokesperson.

Vodolaha noted that the scale of the damage caused by the attack will be determined by specialists, and structures that may hinder further work will be dismantled by climbers.
