Strike on the Chornobyl sarcophagus: SES continues to mitigate consequences

Liquidation measures after yesterday’s Russian airstrike on the protective arch of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant continue today, February 15. No burning is observed anymore, and the radiation level near the facility does not exceed permissible levels.

This is reported by the State Emergency Service (SES).

According to the head of the SES, Andrii Danyk, as of 3:00 PM, there is no burning of insulation materials observed.

He noted that climbers are working on "partial opening of shelter structures and filling voids with fire extinguishing substances."

Danyk also emphasized some factors complicating the work of the SES specialists, such as sub-zero temperatures, snow, and ice on the structures.

"Rescuers are working directly outside the protective structure - at a height of over 100 meters," added the head of the Service.

Regarding the radiation situation, Danyk stressed that air status monitoring is being conducted continuously, and the radiation level "at the industrial site near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant does not exceed permissible values."
