The case against Kyiv’s fugitive ex-mayor Chernovetskyi has been "stalled" for three years: the investigation is not progressing

The case concerning public "separatist" statements made by the former mayor of Kyiv Leonid Chernovetskyi, which were made during the war, has not progressed for three years.

This became known after a request to the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

Chernovetskyi was charged under Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) due to his social media posts that effectively justified Russian aggression. The Prosecutor General’s Office issued a statement of suspicion back in June 2022, but since then, there have been no significant developments in the case.

Currently, as it turned out, the criminal proceedings are at the stage of pre-trial investigation, and the indictment has not been sent to court. The case is being handled by the SSU office in Kyiv, but there are no official updates or rulings regarding this case in the register. The prosecutor’s office did not specify whether Chernovetskyi has been put on the wanted list or whether international legal actions are being taken for his arrest.

The lack of progress in the case leaves Ukrainians pondering the reasons for the investigation’s delay: whether it is bureaucratic obstacles or political motives behind this delay.
