The Ukrainian air defence system has faced new challenges due to the modernization of the Russian ballistic missiles "Iskander" and "Kinzhal".
As noted by the Head of the Communications Directorate of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ihnat, after the deployment of the Patriot systems, Ukraine had some success in shooting down these missiles, but now, due to the enemy’s modernization, the effectiveness of such strikes has significantly decreased.
Ihnat also noted that while the Patriot system continues to show good results in combating ballistic missiles, other systems, such as NASAMS and IRIS-T, are not yet dealing with this threat at the required level.
According to him, today the Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down only one out of six Russian ballistic missiles, which included strikes on the Kyiv region.
