The Ukrainian company Stetman has signed an agreement with the Swedish company Requtech for the licensed serial production of satellite internet terminals, which will operate as an alternative to Elon Musk’s Starlink.

This was announced by the company’s CEO, Dmytro Stetsenko, on Facebook on Wednesday, April 9.

"Thanks to this, Ukraine will not only have an alternative to Starlink, to which we are sincerely grateful for its timely technological support and with which we will continue to cooperate, but also its own production of satellite equipment," the post states.

In a comment to dev.ua, Stetsenko explained that the production of the terminals, based on the Swedish development Resa, involves adaptation to Ukrainian needs — taking into account local design, protection, and components already used in Starlink systems for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"This terminal is similar in functionality to Starlink but has lower speed. Nevertheless, it is quite sufficient for security tasks," he emphasized.

According to the company’s director, Requtech does not limit the volumes — the company regulates the scales of production itself. According to an optimistic forecast, within six months, capacities can reach from 2,000 to 10,000 terminals per month.

"Moreover, the terminal is already certified, which saves Ukrainian manufacturers an additional 1 to 2 years," Stetsenko said.

In the future, in addition to meeting internal needs, Stetman will be able to export equipment to strengthen European satellite infrastructure.

"However, I believe that giving up Starlink is not necessary. It’s better to have backup systems and secure funding sources to use both networks," added Dmytro Stetsenko.

On April 7, Eutelsat CEO Eva Bernecke stated in a comment to Politico that the French satellite operator Eutelsat currently cannot completely replace Starlink in Ukraine.

At the same time, Bernecke added that Eutelsat could provide "critically important cases" for the Ukrainian government.
