Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has taken at least 744,000 Ukrainian children to its territory, mostly with their parents.
This was stated by the director of Bring Kids Back UA Dariya Zarivna.
"Before the full-scale invasion, Ukraine had 7 million children on its territory. According to human rights organizations, about 1.6 million children remain in temporarily occupied territories. Russia has reported that it has taken at least 744,000 Ukrainian children to its territory, mostly with their parents," Zarivna noted.
According to her, Ukraine is unable to either confirm or refute this information, as Russia does not provide information to Ukraine or international organizations. After the ICC issued arrest warrants for Putin and Lvova-Belova, Russia completely ceased any public information regarding the deported Ukrainian children.
Therefore, it is difficult to say how many children have died, how many were separated from their parents after February 2022. There are also children who were born after February 2022.
"Ukraine has officially documented at least 19,546 cases of illegal deportation or forced displacement of children. The actual number is much higher, but Russia blocks access to information, making it impossible to fully assess the scale of this crime. Thanks to the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, we have already managed to return 1,269 children, 449 in the last year, and 18 children in March this year," she added.
