Russian occupiers admitted to the systematic executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war — they were following orders from their commanders
Russian occupiers regularly execute Ukrainian prisoners of war. Moreover, the invaders not only boast about their atrocities by filming the murders but also confess that they kill prisoners on the orders of their commanders.
One of the Russian occupiers who surrendered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Sumy region admitted to participating in the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war.
This was reported by the project "I Want to Live".
Russian invader Ivan Khangusheev from the 810th Marine Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces stated that he was "just following orders". The war criminal claimed that failure to comply with the order to execute a prisoner would have resulted in his own "elimination". Furthermore, other captured invaders confirm the execution of Ukrainian soldiers and the inhumane orders in the brigade.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, since 2022, Russian military have executed at least 245 Ukrainian prisoners of war on the battlefield. In some sectors of the front, Russian commanders deliberately give orders to their subordinates not to take anyone prisoner.
In turn, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine confirms that in this way, the occupiers deliberately and systematically commit brutal crimes, following the orders of their higher military leadership.
