Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region can no longer be considered a rear area, as fighting is ongoing in the city. If the Russians succeed in this direction, the consequences will be significant.

This was reported by the Head of Security Programs at the Centre for Global Studies "Strategy XXI", Pavlo Lakiychuk, on the air of "Espreso".

"Kostyantynivka is now not a rear but a frontline. It is important to understand that Pokrovsk is the key, and Kostyantynivka is the lock for the agglomeration Kostyantynivka - Druzhkivka - Kramatorsk - Sloviansk. Therefore, the Russians seek to break into Kostyantynivka," Lakiychuk explained.

He clarified that the Russians are trying to enter the city not only to reach the highway. Lakiychuk emphasized that this would allow the enemy to be in the rear of our forces defending Toretsk and Chasiv Yar. The expert noted that due to the success of Russian forces in this area, the front could collapse.

"In this case, we will have to either retreat to avoid encirclement, losing significant territories in the Donetsk region. The defence of Kostyantynivka is an important part of our strategic defence operation. I think there will be heavy and prolonged fighting here," Lakiychuk added.
