Revolutionary demining technology: near Kyiv, sensors were used for the first time to study the seabed
Near Kyiv, a revolutionary technology was used for the first time in Ukraine to check the bottom of a body of water for explosive objects. This involved the use of sensor technologies by the MinesEye system, developed by the Charitable Foundation "Fundatsiya Postup." They examined a technical reservoir that is used by fire services for water intake.
This was reported by Informator.
The first use in Ukraine of sensor technology for the purpose of searching for mines or other explosive objects was reported by the Ministry of Economy’s press service. Specialists used the MinesEye system to study the bottom of a water body near Irpin in the Kyiv region, which is used by fire services. It was used by the operator of demining activities, LLC "Risk Control."
"Ukraine is becoming one of the leaders in the field of humanitarian demining, as we seek and improve ways to clear our lands and water bodies in particular. The use of sensors in waters with low visibility and sediment layers will help sappers to inspect such objects more quickly and efficiently," quoted the press service of Deputy Minister Ihor Bezkaraivanyi.
The unique technology for Ukraine and beyond was developed by the Charitable Foundation "Fundatsiya Postup." Its application involves the use of a drone: during a demonstration mission, the MinesEye drone made two flights with a total duration of 15 minutes, operating at a height of only 20 cm above the water. A total of 2,200 square meters of water surface was surveyed.
As a result, the system detected a number of ferromagnetic anomalies and identified 18 locations requiring additional inspection. These areas will be further examined by diver-sappers, including with the use of an underwater drone, to confirm or refute the presence of dangerous objects.
The department added that since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has returned almost 2,000 square kilometers of de-occupied territories to productive use. Overall, the area of cleared land currently amounts to 36.9 thousand square kilometers. At the same time, 137.06 thousand kilometers of Ukrainian land, including occupied territories and aquatories, remain potentially contaminated.
