"F**k off": Kondratiuk recalled how Mohylevska burst into tears after the anger of the "Shans" team over her support for Yanukovych
Ukrainian producer and TV presenter Ihor Kondratyuk shared memories about the political passions that were behind the scenes of the popular show "Shans (Chance)" in 2004. He recalled how the project’s team reacted harshly to singer Nataliya Mohylevska’s statement about her support for Viktor Yanukovych, which she announced on live television.
At that time, the current fugitive was competing for the position of President of Ukraine with Viktor Yushchenko and suffered a defeat. According to Kondratyuk in an interview with the media BLIK, the TV channel "Inter," which aired "Shans," had then signed a contract for an advertising campaign in favor of the Party of Regions. Show participants traveled with concerts as part of this pool, with Mohylevska and Kuzma Skryabin as hosts.
However, as Kondratyuk emphasized, participation in these performances was purely commercial: "They did it solely for the money. They needed to create some legend, so there are many videos on the internet where they say how good Yanukovych is. Although... At that moment, they might have thought so because it was not clear what Yanukovych would do."
The biggest conflict occurred after Mohylevska gave an interview to "5 Kanal," stating that the entire "Shans" project supported Yanukovych. This angered the show’s team.
"After the "5 Kanal" interview, she came to our studio, and they made an ostracism for her. The cameramen, sound engineers, and everyone started criticizing her: "We just watched your interview and you know what – go to hell! We do not support Yanukovych, so why did you say that the entire ’Shans’ project supports him?" You should have said that it’s personally your candidate, not the entire project," Kondratyuk recounted.
According to him, after this scene, Mohylevska cried and left the studio but later returned to continue filming. That same day she publicly apologized to the entire filming crew and admitted she made a mistake.
Kondratyuk also added that the "Shans" project even felt the wrath of society. "Our driver came back from the service station and said: ’They refused to mount the tires, saying, "You support Yanukovych, so go to hell."’ And there were a few such episodes," he recalled.
In response to the question of whether Mohylevska’s position was sincere, the TV presenter answered diplomatically: "I suppose that at that moment she was absolutely sincere. They weren’t paid by the ’regionals,’ but by the ’Inter’ channel, which took the advertising budget of the Party of Regions. I think, first and foremost, Kuzma and Mohylevska perceived this moment as an opportunity to earn money."
