SSU officer sentenced for a $60,000 bribe has been mobilized into the National Guard: court has suspended the case hearing
An SSU officer, who was tried for a $60,000 bribe, enlisted in the National Guard and halted the proceedings.
This concerns Serhiy Shcherbakivskyi, a consultant-expert (on operational issues) of the 3rd department of the 5th division of the Department of Counterintelligence Protection of State Interests in the Sphere of Information Security of the SBU.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the trial court.
At the stage of appeal, the court suspended the proceedings, as the accused is serving in the military.
One of the judges on the panel expressed a dissenting opinion, stating that the accused is abusing his rights. In particular, that he enlisted to later avoid criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
