145 meters long, dozens of meters wide, several decks, helicopter pads, a spa area, a private cinema, and a beach club — all of this is not a NATO warship or a floating hospital, but a new superyacht that Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov received in 2024.

While millions of Ukrainians live in frontline cities without electricity and water, and the Armed Forces are looking for funds for drones and armored vehicles, the construction of this vessel has not stopped for a single day.

This is the Luminance yacht, built by the German shipyard Lürssen — one of the most prestigious in the world. According to international specialized publications (SuperYachtFan, SuperYacht Times, Forbes), Luminance is associated with Akhmetov. Officially, its owner is an offshore structure registered in the Cayman Islands — a typical scheme to hide the beneficiary.

The vessel during the war

The construction of the yacht began back in 2018, but even after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the project was not frozen. Unlike dozens of Ukrainian strategic enterprises that stopped operation or were destroyed, this luxury item for one of the richest Ukrainians was completed according to schedule — and was ceremoniously launched in Germany in 2024.

According to experts, the cost of Luminance exceeds €500 million — that’s over 21 billion hryvnias at the current exchange rate. The annual maintenance of such a vessel costs tens of millions of euros.

Specifications

  • Length: 145 m
  • Volume: almost 10,000 GT
  • Cruising range: over 6,000 nautical miles
  • Speed: up to 20 knots
  • Accommodates up to 24 guests and over 40 crew members

The interior design was carried out by the French firm Zuretti, and the architecture by Espen Øino. Unofficially, the yacht includes a seawater pool, a spa complex, a gym, a library, a salon with panoramic windows, and a helicopter pad.
