Invasion of locusts: giant swarms of insects attack Zaporizhzhya

The locust invasion in Zaporizhzhya continues. Initially, the harmful insects captured the Kushuhum community, and now they have reached the regional center.

They are present everywhere — in yards, gardens, and even inside houses. Local residents are sharing corresponding videos.

According to the information from the Main Department of State Food and Consumer Service, the locusts consume leaves, stems, and flowers of plants. During mass migration, this pest is capable of destroying the entire crop in a short time, with yield losses ranging from 25 to 100 percent.

It should be noted that Egyptian locusts have been identified in the territory of the Kushugum community.

Experts claim that the insects came from the dried-up Kakhovka Reservoir.

According to experts, the locust density is 40–50 individuals per square meter, and in some zones, it reaches 80. This exceeds the permissible threshold, and measures are being taken to protect the crops, local media report.
