LOT is preparing to resume flights to Ukraine six weeks after the end of the war
The Polish national carrier LOT has announced its readiness to resume air connections with Ukraine within six weeks after achieving peace and recognizing the airspace as safe.
The company made the corresponding statement during the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which took place on July 10–11 in Rome.
Initially, it is planned to launch daily flights from Warsaw to Kyiv and Lviv, and later expand the route network to include Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, and Dnipro. According to LOT’s forecasts, up to 800,000 passengers will travel between Ukraine and Poland annually, and this figure could eventually grow to 1.4 million.
Before the full-scale Russian invasion, LOT operated up to 90 flights per week to Ukraine, with 70% of passengers using connections in Warsaw. In 2019, almost 600,000 people used LOT flights between the two countries.
In addition to resuming air connections, the company plans to actively participate in Ukraine’s reconstruction process, providing quick logistics for international experts, businesses, NGOs, and investors. The total cost of post-war recovery of the country is estimated to reach 500 billion euros.
