Ukraine is increasing its purchase of natural gas, predominantly of Russian origin, from Hungary and Slovakia.
In July 2025, imports from Hungary rose by 13% to 300 million cubic meters, and from Slovakia by 140% to 268 million cubic meters. The source of gas for both countries is predominantly Russian fuel, transported via the "Turkish Stream" pipeline.
Overall, gas imports increased by 54% in July.
In total, around 570 million cubic meters of gas were purchased from Slovakia and Hungary in July, accounting for almost 70% of the total imports.
Let us recall that Ukraine constantly urges EU countries to cease importing Russian energy, but as we can see, it continues to purchase gas from Russia through intermediaries.
By the way, the export of Russian gas to Europe via the "Turkish Stream" pipeline (from which Slovakia and Hungary receive it) set a new record in July, reaching nearly 1.6 billion cubic meters.
