Budanov admitted to an unusual hobby and warned of an alarming threat to statehood
Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, shared his personal hobby of collecting postage stamps. However, his hobby is not just for relaxation: observing his collection, he came to an important and alarming conclusion.
Budanov spoke about this in an interview with Nataliya Moseychuk.
"Stamps from countries that no longer exist"
The head of the DIU noted that philately is a relatively young hobby that appeared about 150 years ago. And in this period, many states have disappeared from the world map.
"Looking through my collection, I realized at some point that many of the countries whose stamps I examine no longer exist. And this wasn’t that long ago. So, all these talks about how ’a country can’t just disappear due to certain events’ are lies. Even about seven countries in Europe have ceased to exist," Budanov emphasized.
"We must define who we are"
Budanov stressed that Ukrainians need to define their strategic vision of the future themselves. If this is not done, the answer will be imposed from outside.
"We must clearly answer ourselves: who we are and where we are going. If we don’t do this ourselves, someone will try to impose this answer on us," he stated.
Otherwise, according to the head of military intelligence, there is a threat that Ukraine risks becoming just "a part of history – a subject for another stamp."
