President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Kyiv in the coming days at the invitation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This visit will have both political and economic significance.
This was reported by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Ankara, Nariman Dzhelyal, writes Türkiye Gazetesi. The agenda of the visit includes a free trade agreement as well as peace efforts in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Economic cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey
According to the diplomat, one of the main topics of the talks will be the ratification of the free trade agreement between Ukraine and Turkey. It is expected that this agreement will increase trade volumes between the two countries and assist in the recovery of Ukraine.
Ankara’s peace initiatives
Ankara continues to be one of the few mediators supporting dialogue with Ukraine and Russia, so further support for peace efforts to end the full-scale war is planned for discussion.
Moreover, Turkey has already hosted negotiations in Istanbul and Antalya and has played a leading role in forming significant agreements such as the Black Sea Grain Corridor.
Erdoğan’s visit will take place against the backdrop of a recent agreement on the exchange of 1,200 prisoners of war, reached during talks in Istanbul. Zelenskyy thanked the President of Turkey for his role in this process and proposed to meet again by the end of August.
