French President Emmanuel Macron believes that negotiations with the Russian leader should eventually transition to a quadrilateral format involving Europe.
He stated this before the start of a meeting of leaders from the USA, Ukraine, the European Commission, and several European countries.
President Macron supported the holding of a trilateral meeting between Zelenskyy, Trump, and Putin, preparations for which are ongoing, but believes the format should be expanded.
"The idea of a trilateral meeting is very important… But I think that in the future, we will need a quadrilateral meeting because when we talk about security guarantees, we are talking about the security of the entire European continent," – he said.
Macron did not specify how or by whom Europe should be represented, but reminded that the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine is being handled by the so-called "Coalition of the Determined," led by him and British leader Keir Starmer.
"We need security guarantees. The first of these guarantees is, of course, a strong Ukrainian army. And the second is our commitments. We have been working hard over the past few months within the framework of the Coalition of the Determined, with the support of NATO, to create various foundations for security guarantees and our commitments," – Macron stated.
