The mayor of Bashtanka, Oleksandr Berehovyi, has been charged with embezzling community funds and facilitating their misappropriation during the procurement of clothing for the military.
This was reported by the Prosecutor General, Ruslan Kravchenko.
The investigation established that Oleksandr Berehovyi misappropriated about a third of the funds allocated for winter clothing for the military through a scheme involving overpricing during procurement. The mayor of Bashtanka signed contracts with two private entrepreneurs for more than 1.1 million hryvnias to purchase 150 sets of winter clothing and boots.
However, an audit revealed that the prices were significantly inflated. According to witnesses, the mayor acted through a deputy and intermediaries, who purchased the uniforms at regular prices and then sold them at tender for inflated prices, misappropriating the difference.
