Shmyhal: Ukraine and Lithuania to launch joint production of long-range drones

Ukraine and Lithuania will start joint production of defense products. Among the first initiatives is the launch of production of long-range drones.

A document outlining these intentions was signed in Kyiv by the heads of the defence ministries of both countries, Denys Shmyhal and Dovile Sakaliene. Details were shared by the Ukrainian Defense Minister on his Telegram channel.

"Ukraine and Lithuania will jointly produce defense products to strengthen the security of both countries. Together, we are focusing on launching joint productions, including the creation of long-range drones. The corresponding Letter of Intent regarding joint production of defense products in Lithuania and Ukraine was signed in Kyiv together with the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence, Dovile Sakaliene," Shmyhal reported on the morning of August 25.

The head of the Ukrainian defense ministry added that, together with his Lithuanian counterpart, they discussed the prospects for industrial cooperation that are opening up for both countries after the signing of the Letter of Intent.

"The document creates new opportunities for launching joint ventures, developing Ukrainian companies in Lithuania, and exchanging technologies," Shmyhal noted.

He thanked Sakaliene for her visit and for the productive interaction. Shmyhal added that his colleague assured him that Lithuania will continue to allocate 0.25% of its GDP for military aid to Ukraine until 2027.

"This is a strong signal of long-term support for our soldiers," the Defence Minister noted, emphasizing the importance of such assistance.

During the negotiations, the parties also discussed attracting additional funding for the purchase of weapons and the development of Ukrainian industry.

"Thank you to Lithuania for its systematic and unwavering support of Ukraine on the path to victory," Shmyhal concluded.
