In Paris, near the Eiffel Tower, a 32-year-old Ukrainian woman was raped

In the French capital, Paris, a 32-year-old Ukrainian woman became a victim of rape. The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, August 26, at the Champ de Mars opposite the Eiffel Tower (7th arrondissement). The suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, was detained and taken into custody.

This was reported by Le Parisien. At noon on Tuesday, the Paris prosecutor’s office reported that the case is being investigated by the judicial police of the third district.

According to preliminary police data from the scene, at 2:40 a.m., a man forcibly dragged the victim behind a bush, who was also under the influence of alcohol. He "groped her all over her body" and engaged in sexual contact with her.

The victim’s screams—or, according to other reports, her cries—immediately drew the attention of a night patrol of the Paris police. Law enforcement officers promptly detained the suspect.

The suspect identified himself as a 17-year-old teenager of Libyan origin. It is difficult to confirm whether this is true, as the detainee does not have any identification documents. The prosecutor’s office stated that this information is being verified.

The rape victim is to be questioned again, "since she does not speak French and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the police intervention," the prosecutor’s office added.
