Budanov: The war forced intelligence agencies to change their approach to information security
The Russian war against Ukraine has forced intelligence agencies to change their approaches to information security.
This was noted by the head of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence, Kyrylo Budanov, during his speech at the international forum "Information Warfare: From Resistance to Resilience."
"This war has forced all intelligence agencies to change their approach to information security and create a large network of platforms through which we can convey the information we need.
This is a fairly extensive network. There are platforms that work to counter disinformation, and there are those that we use with the opposite purpose against the enemy," he said.
Budanov added that it is impossible to counter large-scale disinformation without having a clearly confirmed position of our own.
One example of successful enemy disinformation against Ukraine, the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine named the Russian fakes of 2014 about the allegedly crucified boy.
"The story about the crucified boy is a good example of how our enemy in 2014 cognitively influenced our society in the occupied territories. For the first six months, this worked very well. By the way, during prisoner exchanges, I still hear these stories, that you did this in 2014, look at the Alley of Angels. There is neither an alley nor angels, but people believe this because systematically on all TV channels, radio, and the internet, the Russians broadcasted about this event and experts further interpreted it in their own way. And this story about the crucified boy remained in the consciousness, and nothing can be done about it. This is a good example of a proper systemic operation, unfortunately, against us," the intelligence chief explained.
