Budanov: Russia is preparing a "crazy wave" of disinformation
The Head of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence, Kyrylo Budanov, reported that during the upcoming Russian-Belarusian exercises "Zapad-2025," the active phase of which will begin on September 12, a massive information attack is expected.
He announced this during the international forum "Information Warfare: From Resistance to Resilience."
Budanov emphasized that after the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, military exercises such as "Zapad-2025" are perceived as "more than just military maneuvers."
This is precisely where the problem lies. Currently, there is a wave of escalating tension, and with the beginning of the active phase, if I remember correctly, it’s September 12, — it will be just an insane wave of informational stress," noted the intelligence head.
According to him, "disinformation will be disseminated from all sides." About 90% of it will come from the Russian side, added Budanov.
He pointed out that the "Zapad-2025" exercises aim to practice maneuvers in the military and politico-military context on the western direction of the theater of war.
"In other words, they will be practicing certain elements of future war. It is not against Ukraine. Here... it is a symbol and sign primarily for European countries and, first of all, specifically for the Baltic countries," explained Budanov, adding that these countries will find themselves under "serious informational pressure."
