Kyiv prosecutors appealed to Klychko regarding the seizure of the capital’s lands by commercial establishments
The Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office has addressed the mayor of the capital, Vitaliy Klychko. Law enforcement officials demand the liberation of parks and riverbanks in the capital from illegal restaurants and entertainment venues. They state that these territories must be publicly accessible and cannot be transferred to private ownership or use.
This was reported by Informator.
The appeal was announced by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office. Specifically, law enforcement officials sent an official letter to the mayor of the capital with arguments requesting measures to protect the natural environment. In it, prosecutors presented their analysis of how many restaurants, entertainment venues, and similar establishments are located in the capital’s parks and other territories, including those of nature reserve status.
"The capital’s parks, nature reserve territories, and riverbanks must be cleared of illegal restaurants and entertainment venues," — the statement reads.
The Prosecutor’s Office reminded that Ukrainian legislation prohibits the placement of any commercial buildings or structures in protected areas and on the banks of rivers or lakes. These lands, according to law enforcement, must be accessible to all citizens and cannot be transferred to private ownership or use. It is the responsibility of the capital’s authorities to identify such violations and respond to them.
It is noted that in some parks or on riverbanks, entrepreneurs, without any permits and in violation of the law, have constructed permanent buildings. Some have even partially fenced off the seized land plots to conduct business activities. At the same time, access to these territories for other citizens is illegally restricted.
"The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office sent an official letter to Vitali Klitschko regarding the need to take measures to protect the natural environment, ensure proper maintenance of territories and objects of ecological value," — law enforcement added.
At the end of the statement, prosecutors warned that if local authorities do not address the issue, they will take action themselves to respond to the violations. They also urged business owners who have illegally placed their establishments to voluntarily vacate the lands to which access has been unlawfully restricted.
