"We just need to close the borders": MP Kostenko explained how to stop the youth outflow

Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence, and Intelligence Roman Kostenko stated that to prevent young people from leaving Ukraine, it is necessary to simply close the borders. He emphasized that Ukraine is fighting the largest war of the 21st century, which, in terms of the scale of ammunition and weapons used, can already be compared to World War II.

Kostenko expressed this opinion during the broadcast of the program «Speaks Great Lviv» here.

Key challenges for Ukraine

According to Kostenko, the main problems for Ukraine right now are the economy and mobilization. He stresses that there is a shortage of people in the country, and the war with Russia «will not end tomorrow.»

«The fact that we lack people—I’m not saying now that these people need to be drafted—but the war with Russia will not end tomorrow,» the MP stated.

He emphasized the need to prepare young people to defend the state, starting from school.

Training youth and defending the state

According to Kostenko, there are constant complaints in Ukraine about the insufficient training of mobilized individuals. The logical solution in this situation is to start preparing future defenders of Ukraine as early as possible, from school age. The same applies to those who are currently between 18 and 22 years old.

«These are future sergeants, future officers, future engineers, future economists—these are people who can work to defend our state. And this does not necessarily have to be on the battlefield,» Roman Kostenko noted.
