The Ukrainian authorities must help their citizens and ensure water supply to Donetsk.
This was stated by Petro Andryushchenko, head of the Occupation Study Center.
"To save our citizens, it is necessary to announce, for example, a water truce in the area where the Siversky Donets channel is located, which is the root of all problems. We are ready, as the side that cares for its citizens who are in occupation and whom the Russians cannot care for, to conduct an inventory of equipment on our side. If the Russians allow it, then from their side too. If not — let them conduct equipment checks in the part of the frontline they control. We are ready to find a joint solution to carry out necessary repairs, upgrades, and ensure water supply to the population, and then declare this area demilitarized," — Andryushchenko proposed.
It should be noted that there is another point of view on this issue in Ukraine. For example, TV host Dmytro Gordon urged residents of Donetsk, who are deprived of water, to "consume urine".
Let us recall that the main reason for the water supply issues in Donetsk is the cessation of the Siversky Donets-Donbas channel’s operation following the start of the full-scale conflict. Part of the channel’s course is controlled by the Russian Federation, part by Ukraine (including hydraulic structures at the channel’s source on the Siversky Donets), and part runs along the frontline.
