Media sound the alarm: a new bill threatens the removal of reliable information
The rampage of journalism in Ukraine - the only problem on the way to the coveted European integration.
And we will give this misfortune a merciless fight!
If you suddenly thought that the rampant corruption and schemes in the country were the main problem on the way to Europe and our prosperity, it was only your mistaken perception.
But it is good that our government knows how to turn a misguided society towards the right directions and provide precise guidelines for rapid Euro-integration.
Journalists!
This is the trouble.
They have taken too much on themselves in the matter of informing citizens and exposing schemes.
If you are not aware yet, the Speaker of the Parliament Stefanchuk and his team have initiated bill No. 14057, which, without exaggeration, abolishes all investigative journalism.
"Detector Media" and the Institute of Mass Information have very thoroughly outlined everything, so read it.
Here’s a fragment:
The bill proposes to automatically recognize information as unreliable if it is not backed by a court verdict, and also to allow punishment for subjective opinion.
"There are even proposals to allow demanding compensation for criticism if the subject did not like the tone of the publication."
In particular, in the section on the "right to be forgotten," members of parliament suggest removing any information if it is outdated or has lost public interest.
At the same time, journalists note that the definitions of these two categories are not outlined in the project.
"Adoption of these changes could lead to the deletion of any information, including entirely reliable ones."
Considering the wave of criticism in the media and the level of outrage that is only increasing, I suggest Stefanchuk vote for it as urgent, immediately in full, sign it instantly, transfer it to the President for signature, and publish it.
The procedure is worked out - so everything will work out.
And by morning, according to the law, already delete all critical materials about himself and this law.
Onwards - to the rocks!
