The SBI has launched an investigation into the death of a former employee of the Kyiv pre-trial detention center

The State Bureau of Investigation opened a criminal case regarding the death of one of the former employees of the Kyiv pre-trial detention center. He was accused of a number of official crimes that led to the death of a prisoner in this same detention facility.

This was reported by the SBI.

It is noted that doctors provided the detainee with all the necessary assistance, but unfortunately, he died a few days later, on September 24.

"A week ago, emergency medical services were called to the Kyiv pre-trial detention center due to a sudden deterioration in the health of one of the detainees. He turned out to be a former employee of the same detention facility, whom the SBI exposed for systematic abuse," the statement said.

After a medical examination, doctors identified severe internal injuries: closed abdominal trauma, spleen rupture, bruised pancreas, mesentery hematomas of the small intestine, and others. At the same time, no visible signs of beating — bruises, scratches, or abrasions — were found on the suspect’s body.

The deceased was one of five defendants in the case concerning the beating to death of another prisoner in the "Kyiv pre-trial detention center". In August 2025, the SBI completed the pre-trial investigation regarding this fact and forwarded the case to court.

The death of the prisoner from beating was discovered by the SBI as part of systematic work to expose the unlawful actions of the officials of the penal enforcement institutions.
