On Wednesday, September 24, Ukraine and Syria signed a joint communiqué on the restoration of diplomatic relations.
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Telegram.
"We are pleased with this important step and ready to support the Syrian people on their path to stability," stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The head of state informed that during talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, they discussed prospective areas for cooperation development, security threats to both countries, and the importance of addressing them.
"We agreed to build relations based on mutual respect and trust," Zelenskyy emphasized.
The visit of the Syrian president to Ukraine took place on December 2-3, 2010. The then-President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad was received by the then-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn.
