Ukraine terminated diplomatic relations with Nicaragua due to the recognition of the Russian occupation

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha, on the social network X.

"This decision has been made in response to Nicaragua’s recognition of the so-called ’sovereignty’ of Russia over the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson regions, and Crimea," Sybiha explained.

He emphasized that Ukraine views this decision as a deliberate attempt to undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity, a gross violation of the Constitution, the UN Charter, and the fundamental norms and principles of international law.

"By politically aligning with the aggressor state, seeking to legitimize the forcible seizure of Ukrainian lands, and opening a so-called ’honorary consulate’ in Russian-occupied Crimea, Nicaragua has become an accomplice in the crime of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine," the minister noted.

According to him, Nicaragua’s "recognition" of the Russian occupation is legally invalid.

"It does not and will never alter the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine. Ukraine will continue to vigorously respond to any attempts to undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity," Sybiha stressed.
