After the Zaporizhzhya NPP was disconnected from external power sources, a serious situation in terms of nuclear safety persists at the plant.
This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, reports the press service of the international organization.
"In terms of nuclear safety, the situation remains very serious. I urge both sides to take the necessary measures to prevent its further deterioration. This is a matter of political will, not technical capabilities, which are available," said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
He also emphasized that he constantly discusses with Ukraine and the Russian Federation detailed proposals for restoring external power supply to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which has been using emergency backup power for the past ten days.
"Both sides state that they are ready to carry out the necessary repairs on their side of the front line. But for this, it is necessary to improve the security situation on the ground so that technical specialists can carry out their important work without risk to their lives," he added.
