For the first time since 2022, Mykolaiv has regained centralized freshwater supply. As of October 7, 2025, it is already being delivered to consumers.

This was announced by Oleksiy Kuleba, the Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

"After Russian forces destroyed a key main water pipeline, over half a million residents of Mykolaiv were left without a steady water supply. To restore access to freshwater, we built a new pipeline over the course of a year – an extremely complex infrastructure project," Kuleba noted.

During this period, a completely new pipeline stretching 136 kilometers was constructed – in two streams of 67.9 km each – along with pumping stations.

In August 2025, the network was test-filled with water in compliance with all technological requirements. As of October 7, freshwater is already being supplied to consumers, the minister stated.

Pipeline Capacity

The State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development reported that residents of Mykolaiv will receive approximately 120 cubic meters of water per day. Additionally, an extra 50 cubic meters are planned to be used for field irrigation.

"Work is being considered for the construction of modern treatment facilities and the installation of solar power plants. Project evaluation is ongoing."

Safety measures

As reported by the State Agency, cable networks are being laid underground. The structures of the pumping stations are partially submerged in the ground and additionally covered with soil for protection. Construction of shelters for personnel is also in its final stage.

"The system is protected from shelling as much as possible under the conditions of a full-scale war; cable lines are laid underground, shelters for personnel are in place, and there are backup generators and modern equipment," Kuleba emphasized.

Project cost

According to Kuleba, thanks to the expertise of the Restoration Agency, the project cost was reduced by over 2.5 billion hryvnias. The total cost amounted to 6.3 billion hryvnias, which is 25 percent less than the initial estimate.

The saved funds will be allocated to other water supply projects, including the construction of pipelines for the Myrivska and Tomakivska communities in Dnipropetrovsk region, the Bolhrad and Suvorov pipelines in Odesa region, as well as pipelines in Lubny in Poltava region and Vapnyarka in Vinnytsia region, the minister added.

Oleksiy Kuleba noted that the implementation of these projects will ensure a stable water supply for over 180,000 people.
