"The disease has won": Ukrainian restaurateur Ihor Sukhomlyn dies in Munich
On October 14, Ukrainian restaurateur Ihor Sukhomlyn passed away. He was 53 years old.
His wife Khrystyna announced his death on her Facebook page.
According to her, Ihor was undergoing treatment in Germany.
"He fought until the very end, but the illness prevailed. Ihor passed away peacefully, without pain, surrounded by his closest loved ones. The cremation will take place in Munich, where he was being treated. The burial of his ashes will be in Barcelona. I love you endlessly," Khrystyna Sukhomlyn wrote.
He was born on April 19, 1972, in Chernihiv. He obtained an economic education, earning an MBA from the International Management Institute.
His wife is Khrystyna Sukhomlyn. He also had two sons and a daughter.
He began his career working as a janitor, security guard, and lathe operator.
In the early 1990s, Ihor Sukhomlyn organized theater performances for a youth theater, in which he also performed.
In 1995, he founded an advertising agency. In 2002, this business relocated from Chernihiv to Kyiv.
In 2007, Ihor Sukhomlyn, together with partners, created and opened the restaurant "Velyurov." That same year, the first pub, Varenik’s, was launched.
In 2009, he opened the city pastry shop "Sharlotka."
In 2011, he opened another establishment: the coffee shop "Chashka." Two such locations appeared in Chernihiv at once. Later, "Chashka" also opened in Kyiv.
In total, the restaurateur contributed to the opening of 18 establishments in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, and Lviv. Ihor Sukhomlyn owned the coffee shops "Chashka," the pizzeria Mimosa Brooklyn Pizza, the dumpling restaurant "Baluvana Halya," the Georgian restaurant "Buba," the restaurant "Velyurov," and the pastry shop "Sharlotka."
