From the occupied Luhansk region, two Ukrainian military personnel—a veteran of the AFU and a National Guardsman—were successfully liberated
Two Ukrainian servicemen were liberated from the temporarily occupied part of Luhansk region. It concerns a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a current National Guard serviceman who were captured by Russian occupiers.
The operation was conducted by the "Angels" naval special reconnaissance unit in coordination with Military Ombudsman Olha Reshetylova. This was reported by the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Oleksiy Kharchenko.
The 29-year-old veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 34-year-old serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine returned to Ukraine-controlled territory.
One of them was considered missing for over three years – it was later discovered that the man had been held in captivity and essentially enslaved in the occupied Luhansk region all this time.
The mother of the veteran, who also currently serves in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, reached out to the military ombudsman for assistance. She reported that her son was hiding in the occupied territory after being tortured. During the investigation, it was found that another military man, an active serviceman of the National Guard, was being held by collaborators nearby.
During the operation, two parallel evacuation missions were conducted — each of the servicemen was separately extracted, and details of the plan were not disclosed even to those being liberated until a certain stage. Both followed precise instructions, which allowed for the successful completion of the mission.
