Members of the Houthi group Ansar Allah have captured 20 UN employees, including 15 foreigners, in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.

This was reported by The New Arab.

The UN office in Yemen confirmed that 20 of its staff members, five of whom are local and fifteen international, remain in captivity. Jean Alam, the spokesperson for the UN Resident Coordinator in the country, stated that Houthi forces carried out an «unauthorized intrusion» into the organization’s compound.

The United Nations is currently in contact with the authorities in Sanaa, relevant member states, and the Yemeni government to resolve this serious situation as quickly as possible, secure the release of all detained staff, and regain full control over its facilities.

It is noted that the Houthis had previously stormed UN offices in Sanaa on August 31 and detained 11 employees, whom they suspected of spying for the United States and Israel.
