Police officers who beat a man near the TRC were placed under round-the-clock house arrest
The Pechersk Court of Kyiv has chosen a preventive measure in the form of round-the-clock house arrest for Illia Babik, one of the police officers suspected by the State Bureau of Investigation of beating a man near the building of the Holosiivskyi RTRC.
He will remain under round-the-clock house arrest until December 18.
This preventive measure was requested by the prosecution. The defence did not object, stating that at this stage of the pre-trial investigation, it is proportional and sufficient to ensure obligations. During the court session, the lawyer said that her client regrets and sincerely apologizes for what happened.
The court chose the same preventive measure for another suspect, Dmytro Tsyhanenko.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the police officers inflicted multiple blows to the man’s head and body, resulting in numerous contusions for the victim. It is also known that the suspects beat the man after he had sprayed pepper spray inside their car.
The police officers are suspected of abuse of power or official authority by a law enforcement officer.
