During the consideration of amendments to the state budget for 2026, Members of Parliament approved a proposal to extend tax benefits for electric vehicles for another year. They will remain valid until January 1, 2027.
This was announced during the broadcast of the parliamentary plenary session on Wednesday, October 22.
The proposal was supported by 248 Members of Parliament, with the required minimum being 226.
Thus, the current tax benefits - exemption from customs duty (10% of the vehicle’s cost), value-added tax (20%), and the Pension Fund fee upon first registration - have been extended from January 1, 2026.
The only additional expense remains the excise tax, which is 1 euro per kilowatt-hour of battery capacity and usually does not exceed 100 euros.
It is known that tax benefits for importing electric vehicles have been in effect since 2018. Initially, they were introduced for one year, but they have been repeatedly extended.
