Orban: Today, whoever supports Ukraine supports war

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has once again criticized aid to Ukraine, stating that supporting Kyiv only "prolongs the war." Moreover, he claimed that Russians are supposedly "ready to agree to peace" – everyone is ready, except for Europeans and Ukrainians, who "want war."

Orban also emphasized that due to the costs of aid, EU governments are forced to raise taxes, while Brussels itself "has no funds of its own." He made this statement during his weekly interview on state radio.

"Today, those who support Ukraine – support war! Likewise, those who help Ukrainians today want the war to continue! And since the war requires more and more money, governments have to raise taxes and cut their own resources. Meanwhile, Brussels has no funds of its own," – said Viktor Orban.

However, he believes that the current circumstances are more favorable for peace than they were last year.

"The situation was worse a year ago because back then the Americans were also on the side of war. Now it’s only the Europeans and Ukrainians. The Americans are on the side of peace, and the Russians have also reached a point where they are ready to agree to peace, or a ceasefire under certain conditions, which are now considered known. Meanwhile, Ukrainians are still fighting a domestic war," – stated the Hungarian Prime Minister.

Of course, he did not explain the "certain conditions" of the Russian occupiers, nor why Ukrainians want to continue (according to him) a "domestic war." Avoiding direct words about who started this war and why, Orban indirectly blames Europe for Russian aggression.

Moreover, he portrays Europe’s desire to protect itself from a potential attack by Russian occupiers as promoting war, comparing European efforts to theater.

"If you put a gun on the table – an old theatrical rule – sooner or later it must go off," – this is how Orban characterized Europe’s attempts to defend itself with weapons from an attack.

According to him, repeated warnings from military experts that Europe must be ready for war within five years "are very dangerous statements, and those who utter them do not realize that they could become self-fulfilling prophecies."

In other words, once again, if Russia dares to invade EU countries, the Europeans themselves will be to blame.
