100 thousand dollars for closing the case: NABU has announced suspicion to the former head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office
The former head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the head of a department have been notified of suspicion — they demanded 100 thousand dollars for closing a case related to state property, — NABU.
They demanded and received illegal benefits from companies in exchange for not holding their employees criminally liable and for closing criminal proceedings.
Episode 1: $100,000 for closing a case on state property
In 2021, the prosecutors demanded $100,000 in exchange for making decisions in favor of officials of a state enterprise and a private company that had taken possession of the property of this enterprise. Specifically, they promised to close the case regarding the misappropriation of property and not to hold the guilty parties accountable.
After receiving the funds, the case was closed.
Episode 2: 3% for peace of mind
The suspects created a scheme for systematically receiving illegal benefits from a private company engaged in road construction in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. During 2019–2021, the company signed contracts worth hundreds of millions of hryvnias, from which, at the prosecutors’ demand, it was required to pay them 3%. In return, the officials guaranteed that no actions would be taken regarding possible violations during the execution of the works.
In November–December 2021, the perpetrators received part of the agreed amount.
