Zelenskyy: Ukraine’s accession to the EU is more important and realistic than NATO membership

Zelenskyy noted that for Ukraine, joining the EU is better than joining NATO.

«For Ukraine, it is extremely important to become a member of the EU, and we sincerely desire this. The likelihood of joining NATO is lower. This is strongly influenced by the position of the US, which is against it. And not only them, if we’re being frank. From the point of view of the economy and security, the European Union is a more advantageous option than NATO, which Ukraine does not yet belong to. I am confident that this should be beneficial for the EU itself, because our army numbering 800 thousand people and our technologies will only strengthen the Union. If the EU aims for greater power in 100 years, then Ukraine’s accession can be postponed for a century», — said the President of Ukraine.

At the same time, the head of Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sikorski stated that Warsaw will not allow accelerating Ukraine’s admission to the EU.

«The European Commission came up with an idea regarding accelerated membership. This will not happen. We insist that Ukraine fulfills all the requirements, just as we did», — emphasized Sikorski.
