Threat of semi-encirclement of Sumy or manipulation: AFU refutes journalist’s claim of critical situation in the region

Journalist warned of the risk of Sumy being semi-encircled. AFU refute this information.

TSN correspondent Yuliya Kyriyenko reported that an «extremely dangerous situation» has developed in Sumy region.

«Yesterday, information emerged that two brigades on different sections of the front have switched to active assaults. Currently, four incursions are observed along the border. From the east and north, Russian troops are advancing in small groups. Strikes with GABs and enemy artillery fire do not cease. The worst scenario: Sumy risks being semi-encircled», — wrote Kyriyenko.

The Joint Forces Command of the AFU rejects such a scenario.

«Despite months-long efforts by the Russians to penetrate deep into Sumy region, they have managed to capture only a few border villages, such as Hrabivske and Myropilske. As a result, the zone under the occupiers’ control along the border extends 3-4 km deep, while to Sumy — more than 35 km. We ask to consider these facts when discussing the threat of «encirclement of the city from the east». The occupiers are doomed to failure, and their «fantasies» about «envelopment» and «encirclement» let them keep them», — stated the AFU.
