First conversation in history: Zelenskyy held talks with the newly elected president of Honduras Nasri Asfura

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with the newly elected president of Honduras Nasri Asfura. The conversation took place for the first time in the history of bilateral relations between the countries and became the first contact at the leaders’ level.

Information about the negotiations was published by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The message emphasizes that the sides discussed prospects for cooperation and outlined key areas of interaction.

"We greatly appreciate that Honduras’ current position is aimed at supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as developing bilateral relations", – Zelenskyy noted.

During the conversation, Zelenskyy congratulated Nasri Asfura on taking office and wished his country peace and success. The leaders discussed possible areas of cooperation, including agriculture, production and use of drones, as well as energy decentralization and digitalization.

The conversation, as noted, was of a working nature. But at the same time, it set a certain tone for further contacts. The sides are set to move forward without delays.

The presidents agreed that their teams will work on preparing specific agreements in all areas discussed. This involves forming joint projects and developing cooperation at a practical level.

Zelenskyy also invited the President of Honduras to pay an official visit to Ukraine. Specific dates were not named, but the very fact of the invitation indicates an intention to intensify the political dialogue between the countries.
