“Fortification for Europe”: Zelenskyy proposed a powerful defense alliance of Ukraine, Britain, Turkey, and Norway

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine could play a key role in a new European security format together with Great Britain, Turkey, and Norway, but does not consider this as an alternative to joining the European Union.

He said this in an interview with journalist Oksana Sokolova.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is already today an important security factor for Europe.

«As painful as this may sound to our people, but given the geography and risks, we are fortifications for all of Europe. At least from this direction. Therefore, we are undoubtedly strengthening Europe», – the head of state stated.

The President outlined the vision of a potential defense alliance.

«An alliance that, in my opinion, could be much stronger is the alliance of Norway, Ukraine, Britain, and Turkey. These are the four countries that the European Union lacks», – he said.

According to Zelenskyy, the military potential would be significant, and he separately emphasized the importance of partnership.

«Turkey and Ukraine – together this army is stronger than the Russian one. In partnership, this army is stronger. Starting from control of the Black Sea and ending with control of the airspace».

At the same time, the president acknowledged the difficulties related to the status of these countries.

«Regarding Turkey, there are questions – laws, reforms, European legislation. I know there are questions about Turkey. I know that Great Britain left the European Union. I know that Norway has many different systems and economic ties with the EU. But still, I believe: these four countries would make the EU the strongest alliance in the world – with the best security in the world», – the president noted.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is not looking for an alternative to European integration: «We are not looking for an alternative. I just believe that these four countries are very strong and can strengthen the EU. But even separately, these four countries are definitely a very strong alliance».
