Court arrests businessman Kostyantyn Hryhoryshyn in absentia: Ukraine prepares request to Interpol
On May 29, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention on sanctioned businessman Kostyantyn Hryhoryshyn.
This was reported by «Schemes» following a motion by detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security, approved by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
As stated in the OGP’s response to a journalistic inquiry, this ruling will subsequently allow an appeal to Interpol to place the businessman on an international wanted list.
In Ukraine, Hryhoryshyn is suspected of misappropriating funds from «Sumyoblenergo» (in which the state holds a stake) during Russia’s full-scale invasion. According to the investigation, these funds could have been used to protect Sumy region’s energy infrastructure but «were instead spent on paying the businessman’s salary as a fictitious advisor to the company».
Additionally, since January 2025 the National Security and Defence Council has imposed sanctions against Hryhoryshyn. The businessman described this as an «extrajudicial reprisal» and, through his lawyer in summer 2025, filed a lawsuit to have them lifted. Through his counsel, he stated that he rejects the Ukrainian charges and considers them politically motivated.
The journalists also found that Hryhoryshyn is carrying out renovation work on his Swiss villa, which he lists as his registered address, and discovered his luxury chalet in the French resort of Courchevel.
