The President of Ukraine has signed a decree establishing the Coordination Council on the Protection of the Rights of Veterans, Prisoners of War, and Missing Persons. Kyrylo Budanov has been tasked with heading the new body.

On June 5, 2026, the head of state signed Decree No. 384/2026, which established a new coordinating body — the Coordination Council on the Protection of the Rights of Veterans, Prisoners of War, and Missing Persons. The document was published on the official website of the Office of the President, and the council is scheduled to hold its first meeting in the near future.

The document provides for a comprehensive approach to resolving the problems faced by Ukrainian military personnel after returning from the front, as well as by the families of those still held in captivity or considered missing. The creation of such a body is a long-overdue necessity, as the number of issues in this area continues to grow. According to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, Ukraine currently has more than 1.2 million people with the status of war veterans, and this figure increases daily.
