Joint production and protection of the Black Sea: Norway’s Prime Minister announces large-scale funding for maritime drones
The Norwegian government has announced the allocation of NOK 1.2 billion this year for the development and procurement of maritime drones for Ukraine.
This was stated by the Norwegian government.
Funds from the government’s Nansen program will be directed toward the development, procurement, and supply of maritime drones of Norwegian and Ukrainian production.
"The Norwegian maritime industry is a world leader. I am pleased that this experience can be used to support Ukraine in the fight for freedom. Ukraine uses maritime drones for reconnaissance, offensive operations, and protection against Russian attacks," said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
On Tuesday, the Norwegian prime minister met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the summit of leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries in Tallinn.
As emphasized by the Norwegian government, these drones play a key role in ensuring the security of grain and other goods exports through the Black Sea.
Norway and the United Kingdom lead the Maritime Capabilities Coalition in support of Ukraine. Since its establishment in 2023, the Norwegian government has focused on using Norway’s maritime experience and industry to assist Ukraine in the fight against Russia.
