"No one’s own exists": the investigation revealed "pits", torture, and threats of execution in the 225th assault regiment

«There are no our own»: military personnel reported beatings, «pits» and threats of execution in the 225th Separate Assault Regiment.

The Texty publication released a large-scale investigation, for which over six months they collected testimonies from dozens of servicemen of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment, fighters from adjacent units, and relatives of the missing in action. According to them, the unit may have had «blocking detachments», illegal punishments, holding servicemen in «pits», beatings, and tying to the «tree of truth».

The material also published an audio recording in which a voice similar to that of regiment commander Oleh Shyryayev says:

«There are no our own. Everything that moves is the enemy. All who run from positions are also the enemy».

According to the publication, this is an order to open fire on servicemen retreating without orders.

In response, Shyryayev stated that his words were taken out of context and concerned the rules for distinguishing friend from foe due to the risk of Russian saboteurs infiltrating in Ukrainian Armed Forces uniforms. He also denied the existence of «pits» at the regiment’s bases.
