The EU will transfer €1.4 billion to Ukraine from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets for defence
The European Union will direct 1.4 billion euros to Ukraine from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets. The funds will go toward defense.
This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretskyi.
Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU will provide Ukraine with 1.4 billion euros from the proceeds of immobilized Russian assets. The decision was taken after another wave of Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure.
"We wake up again to news of the terrible crimes committed by Russia through its air attacks on Ukraine. Russia must pay for the destruction it has caused. And we are using the funds obtained from immobilized Russian assets to ensure that," she stressed.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi confirmed that the funds from the EU are already being directed to Ukraine.
"The funds will be used to strengthen defense and enhance the resilience of our state. The response to Russian terror must be to strengthen Ukraine. For every new crime, Russia must pay. We thank all our European partners for their principled stance. This gives us strength," Koretskyi wrote.
